AFRIKAN MARTIAL ARTS and SCIENCES

MARTIAL ARTS & SCIENCES OF AFRIKA & THE DIASPORA!

Today my Kali class was cancelled. So I had my own class.

First I practiced a mix of Kali drills. Most of the drills was stuff that I've learned over the last month at the Respect Center (M. Perry's Kali system). The rest was some Inosanto Kali technique. This included the 12 basic strikes, six blocks, and stick strips (M. Perry stuff).

Second, I practiced some Capoeira technique. I practiced some free movements along with their combat applications. This included a mix of sweeps, throws, hand techniques, evasions and entries, and obviously kicks.

One technique in particular was a movement that I did in response to a roundhouse upper-cut combination. I used a high esquiva lateral followed immediately by a resistencia. I executed kick (chapeau de couro) from the resistencia. I entered laterally with a elbow to the face, a palm strike to the inner-thigh or inner-knee and a hand sweep to the front leg. One could optionally strike the downed opponent's face with a chapeau de couro.
