I think I have a pic or two of you from that Capoeira workshop with Mestre Colongo. This is a great idea on the training log. How often do you train?

Peace,
I don't mesh them. They both have totally different body language. What I will say is that Capoiera Angola has caused me to pay more attention to my footwork when doing 52 and 52 has caused me to pay more attention to my hands during Capoiera Angola

Asanti Brother for Your Kind Comments of Support!

Now 20 years ago - my reaction to an enemy in life was quite raw.... A "Drop the Atom Bomb" Mentality!

All praises to the Creator - I have grown in patience as well as age.... Now that doesn't mean that I might not make a mistake, while I am taking my deep breath to calm down and throw my hands in the air and accidently hit the lamp on the table which will fall on that red button.... Boom!! LOL
Peace
Iya Askari

Htp Bro Kamau, It's good to hear from you. I',m in LA right now I had planned on attending the Inosanto Academy while I was in the area but it didn't happen because of time constraints. How are things on your end?

It didn't happen on purpose. I was born a sick kid in 1960. I wasn't expected to live to the age of five but as always God has plans. As long as I can remember, I was enamored of warriors. It didn't hurt that my father and my oldest brother were both phenomenal. My father was from Carolina Puerto Rico where they fought machete duels. He taught me a lot about how to think as a warrior. His most important lessons to me where what he called Querpa Fuertes, which means strong body. The things he taught me enabled me to live where I would have surely died. My brother was a jailhouse fighter. He learned in New York where he was a member of the Stompers, a street gang. I had teachers that taught asia fighting systems, such as grandmaster Hulon Willis. He had one of the oldest martial arts programs in the United States with his classes on Kyokushinkai being taught at Virginia State College, but he taught it in a distinctly African way. It was his mentoring that gave me the courage to explore the roots of my fathers fighting culture as well as other diasporic martial arts. However, I don't consider myself special or even unique. I first consider myself blessed to have had the type of dynamic men and women in my life to help me to become the person that I am. Lastly, I consider life to be a journey and in my life I just consider that I have had more rest stops than some. Thank you for the conversation bro Kamau. Oh and by the way you may remember me from some of the other African martial arts forums as Hannibal. I have read your writings before and have always appreciated your wisdom.peace

Training Log: September 21, 2009

I've been too busy of late to do any significant training. Most of what I've done has been spontaneous and brief. I have been doing a lot of close quarter stuff. This is mostly been WC/CN, with a little CLF. I haven't done much Capoeira, as I'm holding off for the start of my training with a new Capoeira group, whose principle focus is self-defense.

Today I trained on my dummy (training apparatus). I also did some stick fighting. This was Kali, Naboot, and Sbayt Nkht stick (a CLF/Kalenda/Kali h… Continue

Training Log: July 3, 2009

Today my Kali class was cancelled. So I had my own class.

First I practiced a mix of Kali drills. Most of the drills was stuff that I've learned over the last month at the Respect Center (M. Perry's Kali system). The rest was some Inosanto Kali technique. This included the 12 basic strikes, six blocks, and stick strips (M. Perry stuff).

Second, I practiced some Capoeira technique. I practiced some free movements along with their combat applications. This included a mix of sweeps, throws, hand… Continue

Training Log: June 20, 2009

Kali:
I practiced the 12 strikes from Michael Perry's system.

Wing Chun:
Trained some technique from the Wooden Dummy form. I'm exploring the utility of these techniques for blocking inside strikes (hooks, upper-cuts, low jab, etc.). I also practiced some basic fighting movements.

Choy Lay Fut:
I practiced using a parry (Kam) to block a straight punch, while moving laterally to do Yum Tsop to the groin. I followed up with a Sao Choy.

Capoeira:
I practiced using esquiva offensively. This entai… Continue

Training Log: May 29, 2009

This is a simple drill that draws mainly from Wing Chun. Tan sao (blocking a round house punch) followed by or executed simultaneously with a straight punch to the face > striking hand collapses to a rising elbow upon entry > knee (MT style) to the floating ribs > drag the outside leg for a sweep.
